ABOUT US

Tucked away in the historic centre of St. Albans, our beautiful old pub has been a watering hole for weary travellers and thirsty locals alike for centuries.

There has been an inn on the site we now occupy since 1587, and much of the historic architecture and original features survive to this day. When you pay us a visit, why not check out the ancient timber beams and original carriageway arch which have sheltered drinkers here for many hundreds of years. Keep an eye out as well for any ghosts which you might catch lurking in our old building. Back in 1756 our little inn could host as many as seventy horses at once, but as the industrial age took off, we ended up holding people instead - fifty four could once fit in to our place!

Behind the bar we have a large selection of cask ales and draught beers for you to get stuck into, as well as an ever-growing selection of spirits including our premium gin and rum menus.

Brilliant pub, great atmosphere, great food and drink and even better customer service! 5 stars.
